Registration Day!
So today, Rachel and Hazel came to Room 8 to introduce the Summer Learning Journey. This time the topic is about the history of New Zealand extending from 200 years ago. We were also told that there were approximately 60 activities to do. Each activity is worth an unknown amount of points but the bonus points greatly give us 20 points. These points will be then tallied up and they will see the top 3 people who has the most points in each school who will be winning a prize. However, this doesn't end there, their staff will also tally up the points from each cluster and compare them. The cluster with the most points will surprisingly win a free tablet. This programme is very helpful to children during the holidays so that their knowledge doesn't drop. Instead of their knowledge lowering down through the holidays, it will instead rise up and extend more of our learning.

Mortal and Immortal!
Today we learned the difference between mortal and immortal. Mortal means something that lives for a limited time but will also die like a person's physical body. The soul is immortal because it continues to live without the body. I visualize that my soul is immortal like the infinite space.

The work of Cambodia in the Philippines in relation to hearing the cry of the poor!
The work of Cambodia in the Philippines in relation to hearing the cry of the poor
CARITAS New Zealand is working aside NASSA (CARITAS Philippines) to help suffering Filipinos from natural disasters mostly typhoons. This is because Philippines is extremely prone to typhoons which obliterates various houses in the poor citizen's local area.
The most important focus of CARITAS New Zealand is to reprepare first aid kits and essentials for upcoming typhoons which can be then given out to families in drastic need. This action helps Filipinos to become more versatile and bold against these frequent typhoons.
CARITAS also helps Filipinos with climate-resilient farming and fishing activities that will hopefully aid them with the several typhoons occurring a single year. Doing this will excruciatingly help Filipinos to supply themselves more food and water if needed. They have even been invited in a specialised training specifically focusing on their strength against natural disasters which will hopefully help them in the future. This training is currently being effectuated in 9 provinces around the Philippines and will help approximately 1,600 fish and farming families.
A severe past occurrence!
If the past around November 2013, a terrifyingly dangerous typhoon struck central Philippines affecting approximately 13 million people. This is counted as the largest storm in history where it will be forever remembered by all the Filipinos especially those who were affected.
To solve this arduous and drastic conflict, CARITAS Aotearoa and the New Zealand government has greatly supplied essentials costing around 1 million to solve this and create a relief to many affected Filipinos.
WALHT: Identify the work of CARITAS in the Philippines in relation to hearing the cry of the poor.

The last day of Technicraft yet still more exciting!
The last day of Technicraft yet still more exciting!
On the last day of Technicraft, we worked 10 times harder for accomplishing our work as a team in the subject of...

This term the subject for Technicraft was surprisingly Visual Arts! Not all of us were good artists either, but we tried to our best to do what we could. Everyone was 1 day ahead of me, this was because on the first week of Term 3, myself and others had to finish a Maths test making me a little behind. However, this didn't stop me from losing hope on accomplishing all the set tasks.
Weeks passed with our main project of painting a singlet with our own creative designs and patterns, but this time it had a lot more detail into it. Each singlet had to contain primary and secondary colours, the artist's name, two different kinds of patterns and tints and tones. When near completion on mine, everyone else had finished, all I had to finish was the background by week 9. Everyone else finished one Week 7 or Week 8 depending on their speed and accuracy. I worked as hard as I could on the 2nd to the last week and with enough hope and focus, I was able to accomplish this.
However, on the last week, I had to be 10x more focused and concentrated. I still had to do some activities like constructing a metallic tile with different types of shapes but there was not enough time. So I continued with the 2nd main activity which was a parody of the Beatles painting shown below. I quickly thought of any random characters that would randomly appear in my mind. First character was bart simpson! I quickly borrowed a chromebook from Pakuranga Intermediate to search up for any ideas.
Then, as fast as my hands could type, I typed 'Bart Simpson' in the search bar. I saw some pretty weird photos, but the one I picked was perfect. Since this was a parody, I could create anything I want, so I picked a picture of Bart Simpson holding spray paint which I could then add graffiti on the street. It was going great and perfect in my mind!
I kept drawing and focusing on my painting while trying to muffle my ears from any distracting noises coming from any of my classmates and when I was done, I thought of another character. While I was thinking, I thought of the colours of Bart Simpson but I could do that later. The next character was 'Spongebob' but before I started creating him, I decided to quickly add a nuclear explosion in the back representing chaos in my picture and Spongebob would be jumping up in the air, as if he was happy for the chaos around the land.
However, as I was creating Spongebob, our Visual Art's teacher told us that the time was over. I felt my heart breaking into many pieces on the floor but when he said I could take it home and finish it, it started rebuilding as if I was building the Eiffel Tower but with hope. I quickly packed up, looked at all the accomplishments and felt a little tear coming down as I noticed I have successfully completed many things. It was a great day to end the Term…
Term 3 of Technicraft was really enjoyable and surprising. I learn't many types of key things in Visual Arts like tints, tones, primary and secondary colour, patterns and accuracy. I think this was one of the best subjects I had so far in Pakuranga Intermediate. I can't wait for the next subject which is cooking for next term… Just as I'm making this, makes me feel more excited and delighted.

Collecting Water
WALHT:
- Analyse information from visual images and use inferencing skills to build an understanding.
- Compare and contrast information to write a synthesis about it.
After analysing the poster image above, each member of our team responding to the questions or statements on the poster. These were recorded on post it notes.
This task involved comparing and contrasting similarities and difference.
Synthesis:
Both countries, Tonga and New Zealand have different ways of collecting water. In New Zealand, usually people collect water from modern taps which comes from reservoir connected to rivers. While in Tonga, they only use barrels for collecting rainwater which can then be boiled to cleanse it. Some Tongans (people from Tonga) also collect water from a nearby body of water e.g hand water wells which are connected through pipes.

Houses in Papua New Guinea
Synthesis:
The Papua New Guinea houses are weak compared to the houses in New Zealand because there is not much support added.
The houses and buildings in New Zealand are made of bricks wood etc but buildings in Papua New Guinea are only made out of sago palms, timber and bamboo which can't really hold the house if any natural disasters occur.
Both countries also have an easy source of water in their houses but through different resources.
In Papua New Guinea their easiest water source is the body of water (e.g a river) but in New Zealand it's from the modern tap.

WLJ: Week 1; Day 5; Activity 1
My Story:
As I was walking with my group, I saw a majestic looking tree. I strolled to it and gazed as its amazing features. However, when I looked back, I realised I was left behind by my group. I was getting worried and frightened! I thought I would be stuck with the wonderful tree for eternity, until I noticed a map of the park near the roots of the tree. I followed the map carefully and leisurely back to the entrance we came from to search for them there.
As I was getting closer and closer to the entrance, I raised my head seeing the van we used to travel. However, I also saw a group of people similar to my group and so I ran over to them thinking it was my group. As I touched the shoulders of two random people, I saw it wasn't them! They face were drastically puzzled and I was embarrassed. I turned back in shame and while I was walking, I turned around slowly and found my group. I was filled with great excitement! The day couldn't get any better!

Programming and coding can be really fun!
WALHT: Write a report to our first session of Computer Science at Tech.
Do you think coding and programming a game for others can be exciting to learn? If you concur, read on!
Thursday 22nd of June, another exciting day at Technicraft. This time the Year 7's were in another class with another exciting subject. It was 'Computer Science'! A whole new door was opened with more doors that contained varieties of knowledge including scripting, programming and coding. Everyone was thrilled and filled with drastic excitement.
Initially learning binary was the first step. Learning this would help them learn to code which is a great start for novices. Every student followed a binary decoder which gave them data on writing letters with binary. They started with writing their initials with binary using coloured pencils, not numbers. This way they learned how to write their initials through binary using colours.
Secondary, their next task was to learn how to program a character to reach its destination using the app called 'StudioCode'. This app allowed Year 7s to click and drag blocks that program the character into the workspace.
Their goal is to be as efficient as possible as it is the real goal rather than reaching the destination. If the student manages to reach the destination in the given amount of blocks, they will receive a green dot as to mark they've completed their goal.
Tertiary, after completing all the given work and having 20 shiny green dots, studying the code was their next instruction. Studying the code for students was a little complicated as to now know that much information about programming and coding. Even though understanding it was intricate, taking time would help the students learn the codes. By learning the codes, in the future the students might learn how to construct and program a game. After doing all the given work, their first day concluded.
This new day of Technicraft was prominent for most children as they enjoyed studying to code and program characters. Their next session of Technicraft is surely going to be better than the rest of the sessions in Pakuranga Intermediate. Every student cannot wait any longer for their next session as Technicraft as they know it will be more thrilling and exciting.
