This term the subject for Technicraft was surprisingly Visual Arts! Not all of us were good artists either, but we tried to our best to do what we could. Everyone was 1 day ahead of me, this was because on the first week of Term 3, myself and others had to finish a Maths test making me a little behind. However, this didn't stop me from losing hope on accomplishing all the set tasks.
Weeks passed with our main project of painting a singlet with our own creative designs and patterns, but this time it had a lot more detail into it. Each singlet had to contain primary and secondary colours, the artist's name, two different kinds of patterns and tints and tones. When near completion on mine, everyone else had finished, all I had to finish was the background by week 9. Everyone else finished one Week 7 or Week 8 depending on their speed and accuracy. I worked as hard as I could on the 2nd to the last week and with enough hope and focus, I was able to accomplish this.
However, on the last week, I had to be 10x more focused and concentrated. I still had to do some activities like constructing a metallic tile with different types of shapes but there was not enough time. So I continued with the 2nd main activity which was a parody of the Beatles painting shown below. I quickly thought of any random characters that would randomly appear in my mind. First character was bart simpson! I quickly borrowed a chromebook from Pakuranga Intermediate to search up for any ideas.
Then, as fast as my hands could type, I typed 'Bart Simpson' in the search bar. I saw some pretty weird photos, but the one I picked was perfect. Since this was a parody, I could create anything I want, so I picked a picture of Bart Simpson holding spray paint which I could then add graffiti on the street. It was going great and perfect in my mind!
I kept drawing and focusing on my painting while trying to muffle my ears from any distracting noises coming from any of my classmates and when I was done, I thought of another character. While I was thinking, I thought of the colours of Bart Simpson but I could do that later. The next character was 'Spongebob' but before I started creating him, I decided to quickly add a nuclear explosion in the back representing chaos in my picture and Spongebob would be jumping up in the air, as if he was happy for the chaos around the land.
However, as I was creating Spongebob, our Visual Art's teacher told us that the time was over. I felt my heart breaking into many pieces on the floor but when he said I could take it home and finish it, it started rebuilding as if I was building the Eiffel Tower but with hope. I quickly packed up, looked at all the accomplishments and felt a little tear coming down as I noticed I have successfully completed many things. It was a great day to end the Term…
Term 3 of Technicraft was really enjoyable and surprising. I learn't many types of key things in Visual Arts like tints, tones, primary and secondary colour, patterns and accuracy. I think this was one of the best subjects I had so far in Pakuranga Intermediate. I can't wait for the next subject which is cooking for next term… Just as I'm making this, makes me feel more excited and delighted.
He tuhituhi nui - Great writing Tristan. You have included detail and an extensive range of topic specific vocabulary, which is further enhanced by your inclusion of images. Keep up the great work.
