Saint Matthew, the Apostle
St. Matthew is a disciple of God, but he was a dishonest tax collector.
Saint Matthew was born in Capernaum in Israel. Capernaum was a fishing village in the past. It is also near the north of the Sea of Galilee. This is also where Jesus lived.
His cousin is James, son of Alphaeus. His cousin James was born in Galilee in Israel and he died in Jerusalem.
Matthew was a dishonest tax collector in Capernaum and he became one of Jesus’ twelve disciples. Although Jesus knew that Matthew was dishonest he still gave him a chance to repent for his sins. He became a patron saint of all tax collectors and accountants.
Saint Matthew is one the important disciples of Jesus. He wrote about Jesus’ life and what his understanding who Jesus was.
It is through Jesus’ love and forgiveness that Matthew’s sins were forgiven. Saint Matthew became a saint to show Jesus’ great love for all of us who are sinners.
